How to Connect the Whole House Humidifier to the Control Board

Thus, if you want to give maximum protection to your family, then installing a whole house humidifier is very important since it offers full coverage in all nooks and crannies in your home. This is very important especially if one of your family members is prone to sinus infections or any other respiratory conditions which include allergies and asthma. Installing a whole house humidifier to the control board of your house is very easy and for this DIY project.

  • Electric drill and drill bits
  • Whole house humidifier kit
  • Tin snips
  • Working gloves
  • Screw drivers
  • Open wide wrench
  • Utility knife
  • Industrial sealant

Step 1 - Assess the Area where you will be Installing the Humidifier

When you install the whole house humidifier, it is important that you assess the area where you will be setting up the device. Make sure that the temperature of the area where you plan to install the device does not drop below to freezing otherwise the device will malfunction.

Step 2 - Prepare the Area where you will Install the Humidifier

Turn off the electricity source of your HVAC and prepare your whole house humidifier kit to the area where you will be installing the humidifier. Use a masking tape to temporarily set the kit to the return air duct that connects the entire HVAC system of your house. This will also mark the area where you will be drilling holes to hold the humidifier in place.

Step 3 - Drill Holes to Mount the Humidifier

Put on your working gloves for protection and using a drill, drill holes to where the humidifier will be mounted later on. Use the template that is found on the whole house humidifier kit to drill the holes and using the right drill bits, carry out this task until the templates have been traced properly. Once the drill has been made, install the kit and use a screw driver to push the screws firmly in place on each hole that you made earlier.

Step 4 - Cut the Space on the Air Duct where the Humidifier will be Attached to

Using a tin snip and a utility knife, cut a hole on the air duct where the humidifier will be attached to. Secure the connection using an industrial sealant to prevent any leaks on the connection. For this task, you can ask the assistance of a family member to hold the duct in place as you cut an opening on it.

Step 5 - Attach the Humidifier to the Control Board and the Water Supply

Once the valve has been connected, connect the humidifier kit to the control board and to the water supply. For this particular task, it is best to consult with a professional to make sure that the connection is properly made and to prevent committing any damages to your HVAC system.
